Dr Sanchez qualified from the University of the Witwatersrand Medical School in 1988. After his internship, he started his orthopaedic training as a Senior House Officer at Johannesburg Hospital. 

He continued practicing in this field for a further five years as a mine medical officer gaining experience in mainly trauma surgery.

!n 1995, he commenced his specialist orthopaedic training at the University of Cape Town Medical School, gaining experience in all major orthopaedic sub-specialties.Toward the end of his training he developed a specific interest in arthroscopic surgery, especially of the shoulder and elbow.

After qualifying in 2000, he started full time private practice as a general orthopaedic surgeon in East London. He developed his interest in arthroscopic surgery, extending this to include knee and ankle arthroscopic surgery by attending a number of workshops both in South Africa and internationally.

This led to him gaining experience in adult reconstructive surgery for traumatic and degenerative conditions. At present Dr Sanchez performs total hip, knee and shoulder replacements and has an affiliation to a colleague in Cape Town who travels to East London to perform total elbow replacements.

He is an active member of a number of sub-specialty societies, including South African Shoulder and Elbow Society, South African Arthroplasty Society and the South African Knee Society.

Currently, Dr Sanchez attends regular workshops, academic meetings and conferences both locally and internationally, to maintain standards and learn new surgical techniques.

He operates out of Life St Dominic's hospital, the main orthopaedic accredited private hospital in East London and is also an honorary consultant at Frere Hospital where he is involved in assisting and teaching registrars and junior doctors.
