Mini-Posterior Hip Replacement
Capsule preserving, mini-posterior approach for hip replacement
The mini-posterior approach allows for direct, minimally invasive
access to the hip joint and thigh bone (femur) leading to faster
recovery, greater stability and a reduced risk of dislocation compared
to traditional hip replacement techniques.
The
incision is approximately three to six inches in length and is made
along the side of the hip curving backward. This places the scar in a
less visible area.
In this approach, the piriformis tendon is released and the hip
capsule is opened giving full access to the joint for the replacement
surgery. With microsurgical soft tissue handling and repair, the risk of
dislocation is almost eliminated.
Mini-posterior hip replacement patients experience:
- Reduced risk of dislocation
- Minimal limitations in hip movement after surgery
- Rapid return to normal activities
